SYFN and Webrom TV Launch SYFN TV!!

The South Yorkshire Filmmakers Network have released a new feature to be accessed via their website at www.syfn.org - SYFN TV!

Films featured on the web-channel will be those that have been produced through the Network, by its members or by the organisation itself. The web-channel is immediately a welcome addition to the growing amount of methods of digital distribution available for short filmmakers, and this time, it’s a channel that specifically caters to filmmakers in the Yorkshire region!

Webrom TV's Managing Director Tim Leigh says, "Helping the SYFN to produce their online web TV channel is a great opportunity for us. Not only are we helping showcase the work of talented filmmakers in the region but also our own services, so both parties benefit. Organisations such as the SYFN serve an important place within the creative community and we are delighted to be able to support them in this way."

SYFN’s Head of Operations, Rob Speranza, was very pleased when Webrom approached him with the offer. “The chance to stream our films online with a local provider that is so reliable, professional and easy to communicate with was a golden opportunity. I look forward to being able to showcase much of the region’s output through the Webrom SYFN TV Channel”.

Webrom TV Sales Manager, Carl Timms, a Sheffield resident, was one of the earliest members of the Network and so was pleased to be able to help the organisation out. "Much of the work we do is very much in the corporate sector. For Webrom TV this has been a chance for us to break away from the more commercial work we do and get involved with the filmmaking community at grassroots level. We are keen to support the growth of production within the region and are happy to help out in any way we can with SYFN's plans".

Visit the SYFN’s website at www.syfn.org now and simply click on the SYFN TV feature button right on the company home page. You’ll be instantly re-directed to the Webrom-sponsored channel and site.

Webrom TV are a creative media company based in Ilkley, West Yorkshire. Their sales manager Carl Timms can be contact on 01943 817296 if you would like to find out more information about their history, products and services.

2 SHOTS - SYFN's SECOND BIRTHDAY PARTY

Two Shots served as a benchmark event for the SYFN - we turned two years old and celebrated it appropriately with the largest filmmakers networking event in South Yorkshire so far this year.

Approximately 90 people came to the day's events, including our morning talks, afternoon and evening screenings, and dinner/networking and guest speaker events.

For the party afterwards at Plug nightclub, over 250 came to further network and see the three bands we booked to play, so we consider the event a rousing success.

SOUND AND VISION 1.0

This event took place on Sat March 18th at Sheffield Independent Film.

Atoness provided a live score to the film Un Chien Andalou, Vib Gyor travelled from Leeds to play a set of their haunting, cinematic rock music with a live camera mix as a backdrop. Nine More Lies headlined with a 45 minute set of songs, each of which was accompanied by specially produced video content, both narrative and non-narrative.

The night also included a screening of locally produced music videos and short films about music.

2 WEEKS 2 MAKE IT (2005)

The screening and awards ceremony concluded the competition with a bang!

THE ARC!

This 10 week programme recently came to a successful close. 10 screenwriters from around the region took part in weekly seminars with the aim of accelerating the development of their current project.

JOHN OFFORD AND ALISTAIR GREEN 'GETTING INTO TV' June 21, 2005

People attended from all walks of life and all age ranges to see John and Alistair talk about their experiences of working for Granada Television. They both gave extremely honest accounts, opinions and advice about the industry and their careers. They also arranged a VT featuring 2 producers from Granada who gave us their “know how” views and facts about getting into TV. It was a very informative night and useful for anyone considering a career in television. Keep an eye on the SYFN bulletins and website for more events like this in the near future! We thank John and Alistair and wish them every success for the future and hope to see them again soon!
