2 WEEKS 2 MAKE IT 2

At the launch in November, 17 bands and filmmakers were matched up and, as the title suggests, they were given just 14 days to come up with a concept, arrange the shoot and edit the finished film. The competition kicked off on November 10th at an event in Sheffield that included live music, a panel of guest speakers and the drawing of team names from hats that decided who worked with whom.

The competition, which is run by South Yorkshire Filmmakers Network and Sort of …Films Ltd, and sponsored by Business Link South Yorkshire, encourages filmmakers and bands to work together to create a promotional music video. One of the biggest attractions this year is the top prize – an opportunity for the winners to make a music video with Mercury Award-nominee, Kate Rusby, as well as tthe opportunity to produce a video for South Yorkshire band Stoney, and hundreds of pounds worth of vouchers from top local retailers.

"We are delighted to be involved again this year," said Catherine Grasier, Creative and Digital Adviser at Business Link. "...it is a great way to encourage collaboration between the music and film industries and helps convey the message that there is support available to those wanting to set up a business in this sector."

The aim of the competition is to provide a platform for filmmakers and bands to work together to their mutual benefit. Last year’s winners, Existend and Watts That Productions? have gone on to bigger and better things as a direct result of 2 Weeks 2 Make It.

Those talented and lucky enough to finish the competition had their work screened to an enthusiastic audience at one of Sheffield’s top cinemas, The Showroom.

Prizes were awarded to the judge’s three favourite films; the Reader's Prize going to Paddy Orange for his music video 'Love at First Sight' by Monkey Liberation Front, the Critics' Prize going to Screaming Mimi for their music video 'Dorothy Millette' by Digital Ink (Christian Knowles-Fitton), and an Honourable Mention Award went to Dead Like Harry for 'Shallow Grave' by Deranged Pictures.

The finished films are now featured on a compilation DVD sold across the region.
