WHAT IS THE SOUTH YORKSHIRE FILMMAKERS NETWORK?

The South Yorkshire Filmmakers Network is a not-for-profit organisation
that aims to promote and enable filmmaking  activities and media
networking in South Yorkshire.


We're here to make the process of making a film easier and more
accessible to Yorkshire folks. If you have a problem and you need some
help, give us a call or send an email.

We'll do plenty of things for you for free, but we also have a membership
scheme that we encourage people to join, especially if you look to be
 regularly making films in the region.

WHO CAN JOIN?

Anyone who can display experience of or a commitment to
working in the moving image industries (and who lives in the
general vicinity) can join the SYFN. Members currently range
from semi-professional and professional filmmakers to postgraduate
film students and individuals attempting to make the transition from
other fields. Members include writers, producers, directors, actors,
sound designers,musical composers, editors, camera operators,
sound recordists and animators, amongst others.

WHO RUNS THE SYFN?

Dr. Rob Speranza works for the Network full time as its Producer
and Head of Operations.

From Brookyln, New York, Rob Speranza is a PhD graduate of the
University of Sheffield and is an in-house producer with the
South Yorkshire Filmmakers Network in Sheffield. He has spent
the last seven years developing and producing commissioned
short films for the festival circuit and documentaries or corporate
material for online marketing, DVDs and broadcast. In the last
three years he has been working on independent feature films as
a producer and line producer. With about 20 international awards to
his name to date, Rob has produced over 100 films in his professional
career, for clients as diverse as theUK Film Council, Business Link,
CBBC, Sheffield City Council, Objective One, Sheffield Galleries and
Museums Trust and the University of Sheffield.He runs
(and is co-founder of) the South Yorkshire Filmmakers Network
(www.syfn.org) which has over 1100 members, and he is passionate
about the Network's development and provision for its members.

In 2009 Rob line produced his first feature film Nowhere Fast with
writer/director Martin Wallace and co-producer Sarada McDermott in
Liverpool, UK. The film will be completed in 2011 after having a
presence in rough-cut form at the UK Film Focus market in London
(June 2010). In 2011, Rob is producing low-budget feature film
Entity (wr/dir Steve Stone) in North Yorkshire. Feature horror film
Inbred, which Rob line produced in 2010, will enjoy a gala premiere
at London's FrightFest in 2011.
